THE KINGDOM OF GOD 3 - ACCORDING TO THE CATECHISM
Jesus confesses the Father, gives him thanks and blesses him because he has
hidden the mysteries of the Kingdom from those who think they are learned
and has revealed them to the "little ones" (the poor of the Beatitudes). CIC 2603
THE KINGDOM - the word "basileia" - can be translated
by kingship (abstract noun), kingdom (concrete noun)
or reign (from reigning, action noun). CIC 2816
The Lord Jesus began
his Church with the
announcement of the Good
News, that is, of the arrival of
the Kingdom of God - for
centuries in the Scriptures
"To fulfill the will of the
Father, Christ inaugurated the
Kingdom of heaven on earth.
-The Church is the Kingdom
of Christ "already present
in mystery". CIC 763
All men are called to enter the Kingdom, announced in the
first place to the children of Israel, this messianic kingdom
is destined to welcome men from all nations. To enter it,
it is necessary to accept the word of Jesus: CCC 543
"The Kingdom of God is near" "After John was
arrested, Jesus went to Galilee, and proclaimed
the Good News of God: «The time has come and
the Kingdom of God is near; convert and believe
in the Good News» (Mk 1,15). CIC 541.
"Christ, therefore, to do the will of the Father, inaugurated the Kingdom of Heaven on earth”.
(LG3) Well then, the will of the Father is "to raise men to the participation of divine life".
(LG2) He does this by gathering men around his Son, Jesus Christ. This meeting is the
Church, which is on earth "the germ and the beginning of this Kingdom".(LG5)
Christ is the
very heart of this
gathering of men
as the "family
of God."
He summons them
around him-by his
word,-by his signs
that manifest the
Kingdom of God,-
by the sending of
his disciples.
In the gospel
his Kingdom…
grows by the love
with which
Christ, exalted
on the cross,
draws men to
himself”
CIC 180
In the gospel
his Kingdom… grows
by the love with which
Christ, exalted on the
cross, draws men to
himself” CIC 180
The People of God "His destiny is the Kingdom of God,
which he himself began in this world, which must be
extended until he himself brings it to its perfection." CIC 782
Jesus invites sinners to the banquet of the Kingdom:"I have
not come to call the righteous but sinners" (Mk 2,17). - He
invites them to conversion, without which they cannot enter
the Kingdom, but he shows them in words and deeds the
limitless mercy of his Father towards them and the immense
"joy in heaven for a single sinner who converts " (Lk 15,7
The supreme test of this love will be the sacrifice of his
own life "for the remission of sins" (Mt 26:28).CCC 545
CONDITIONS
FOR ENTERING
THE KINGDOM
"become a child“
in relation to God.
This is the condition
for entering
the Kingdom;
Therefore it is
necessary to humble
and lower oneself
The Mystery of Christmas is realized
in us when Christ "takes shape“ in us.
Christmas is the Mystery of this
"wonderful exchange": CIC 395
Jesus explains
baptism
to Nicodemus
even more: it is necessary to be "born from above" (Jn 3,7),
"born of God" to "become children of God" (Jn 1,12).
THE SACRAMENTS AND THE KINGDOM
THE SACRAMENTS - By Baptism, all
sins are forgiven, original sin and all
personal sins, as well as all the penalties
of sin. Indeed, in those who have been
regenerated nothing remains that prevents
them from entering the Kingdom of God,
neither Adam's sin, nor personal sin, nor
the consequences of sin, the most serious
of which is separation from God. CIC 1263
Baptism is the main place of conversion firstand
essential. Through faith in the Good News and through
Baptism, evil is renounced and salvation is attained, that
is, the remission of all sins and the gift of new life.
Eucharist
«I have longed to eat this
Passover with you before
suffering; because I tell you
that I will no longer eat it until
it finds its fulfillment in the
Kingdom of God»...
And he took bread, gave
thanks, broke it and gave it to
him saying: "This is my body
that goes to be delivered by you;
do this in memory of me.”
Similarly, after supper, he took
the cup, saying: "This cup is
the New Alliance in my blood,
that will be poured out for you”
(Lk 22,7-20) CCC 1339
At the Last Supper,
the Lord himself drew
the attention of his
disciples to the
fulfillment of
Passover in the
kingdom of God:
"And I tell you, from
now on I will not
drink of this fruit of
the vine until the day
I drink it with you."
again in my Father's
Kingdom"
(Mt 26:29).
Every time the Church celebrates the Eucharist, it remembers this promise
and its gaze is directed towards "the one who is coming". In her prayer,
she implores his coming: "Marana tha" (1 Co 16,22), "Come, Lord Jesus"
(Rev 22,20), "may your grace come and may this world pass away". CIC 1403
CONVERSION AND PENANCE - Jesus calls for
conversion. This call is an essential part of the proclamation
of the Kingdom: "The time is fulfilled and the Kingdom of
God is near; turn and believe in the Good News" (Mk 1,15).
In the Church's preaching, this call is addressed primarily to
those who do not yet know Christ and his Gospel. CIC 1427
SIN - Mortal sin is a radical possibility of human freedom as is love. –
It involves the loss of charity and the deprivation of sanctifying grace, that is,
of the state of grace. If not rescued by God's repentance and forgiveness, it
causes exclusion from the Kingdom of Christ and eternal death in hell; so
that our freedom has the power to make choices forever, without return.
However, even if we can judge that an act is in itself a serious fault, the
judgment on people must be entrusted to the justice and mercy of God.CCC 1861
All the sacraments,
especially those of
Christian initiation,
have as their ultimate
goal the definitive
Easter of the Christian,
that is, the one that
through death makes
the believer enter the
life of the Kingdom.
Then what faith and
hope have confessed
is fulfilled in him:
"I await the
resurrection of the
dead and the life of
the world to come”.
CIC 1680
THE THEOLOGY
OF THE KINGDOM
Above all, he will bring
about the coming of his
Kingdom through his
great Easter Mystery:
his death on the Cross
and his Resurrection.
"When I am raised
from the earth, I will
draw everyone to
myself" (Jn 12:32).
All men are called to
this union with Christ.
CIC 542
The Kingdom of God is before us. - It approaches in the
Incarnate Word, it is announced throughout the Gospel,
it arrives in the death and Resurrection of Christ.
The Kingdom of God comes at the Last Supper
and through the Eucharist he is among us.
It may even be that the
Kingdom of God means
Christ in person, whom
we call with our voices
every day and whose
advent we want to
hasten byour wait.
As it is our
Resurrection because
we rise in it, it can
also be the Kingdom
of God because in
it we will reign.
(Saint Cyprian of Carthage)
SATAN'S STRUGGLE AGAINST THE KINGDOM
That God allows diabolical activity is a great mystery,
but "we know that in all things God intervenes
for the good of those who love him" (Rom 8,28)
… Satan's power is not infinite. He is only a creature, powerful because he is pure spirit,
but only a creature: he cannot prevent the building of the Kingdom of God. Although
Satan acts in the world out of hatred against God and his Kingdom in Jesus Christ, and
although his action causes serious damage - of a spiritual nature and indirectly even of a
physical nature - in each man and in society, this action is permitted by divine providence.
that with strength and gentleness directs the history of man and the world. CIC 395
THE WITNESSES
OF THE KINGDOM
The witnesses who have
preceded us in the Kingdom,
especially those recognized
by the Church as "saints",
participate in the living
tradition of prayer, by the
testimony of their lives, by
the transmission of their
writings and for your prayer
today. They contemplate
God, praise him and do not
stop caring for those who
are left on earth.
Entering "into the joy" of their Lord, they have been
"appointed over much." Your intercession is your highest
service to God's plan. We can and must beg them to
intercede for us and for the whole world. CIC 2683

THE KINGDOM OF GOD 3 - ACCORDING TO THE CATECHISM.pptx

  • 1. THE KINGDOM OF GOD 3 - ACCORDING TO THE CATECHISM
  • 2. Jesus confesses the Father, gives him thanks and blesses him because he has hidden the mysteries of the Kingdom from those who think they are learned and has revealed them to the "little ones" (the poor of the Beatitudes). CIC 2603
  • 3. THE KINGDOM - the word "basileia" - can be translated by kingship (abstract noun), kingdom (concrete noun) or reign (from reigning, action noun). CIC 2816
  • 4. The Lord Jesus began his Church with the announcement of the Good News, that is, of the arrival of the Kingdom of God - for centuries in the Scriptures "To fulfill the will of the Father, Christ inaugurated the Kingdom of heaven on earth. -The Church is the Kingdom of Christ "already present in mystery". CIC 763
  • 5. All men are called to enter the Kingdom, announced in the first place to the children of Israel, this messianic kingdom is destined to welcome men from all nations. To enter it, it is necessary to accept the word of Jesus: CCC 543
  • 6. "The Kingdom of God is near" "After John was arrested, Jesus went to Galilee, and proclaimed the Good News of God: «The time has come and the Kingdom of God is near; convert and believe in the Good News» (Mk 1,15). CIC 541.
  • 7. "Christ, therefore, to do the will of the Father, inaugurated the Kingdom of Heaven on earth”. (LG3) Well then, the will of the Father is "to raise men to the participation of divine life". (LG2) He does this by gathering men around his Son, Jesus Christ. This meeting is the Church, which is on earth "the germ and the beginning of this Kingdom".(LG5)
  • 8. Christ is the very heart of this gathering of men as the "family of God." He summons them around him-by his word,-by his signs that manifest the Kingdom of God,- by the sending of his disciples.
  • 9. In the gospel his Kingdom… grows by the love with which Christ, exalted on the cross, draws men to himself” CIC 180
  • 10. In the gospel his Kingdom… grows by the love with which Christ, exalted on the cross, draws men to himself” CIC 180
  • 11. The People of God "His destiny is the Kingdom of God, which he himself began in this world, which must be extended until he himself brings it to its perfection." CIC 782
  • 12. Jesus invites sinners to the banquet of the Kingdom:"I have not come to call the righteous but sinners" (Mk 2,17). - He invites them to conversion, without which they cannot enter the Kingdom, but he shows them in words and deeds the limitless mercy of his Father towards them and the immense "joy in heaven for a single sinner who converts " (Lk 15,7
  • 13. The supreme test of this love will be the sacrifice of his own life "for the remission of sins" (Mt 26:28).CCC 545
  • 14. CONDITIONS FOR ENTERING THE KINGDOM "become a child“ in relation to God. This is the condition for entering the Kingdom; Therefore it is necessary to humble and lower oneself
  • 15. The Mystery of Christmas is realized in us when Christ "takes shape“ in us. Christmas is the Mystery of this "wonderful exchange": CIC 395
  • 16. Jesus explains baptism to Nicodemus even more: it is necessary to be "born from above" (Jn 3,7), "born of God" to "become children of God" (Jn 1,12).
  • 17. THE SACRAMENTS AND THE KINGDOM
  • 18. THE SACRAMENTS - By Baptism, all sins are forgiven, original sin and all personal sins, as well as all the penalties of sin. Indeed, in those who have been regenerated nothing remains that prevents them from entering the Kingdom of God, neither Adam's sin, nor personal sin, nor the consequences of sin, the most serious of which is separation from God. CIC 1263
  • 19. Baptism is the main place of conversion firstand essential. Through faith in the Good News and through Baptism, evil is renounced and salvation is attained, that is, the remission of all sins and the gift of new life.
  • 20. Eucharist «I have longed to eat this Passover with you before suffering; because I tell you that I will no longer eat it until it finds its fulfillment in the Kingdom of God»... And he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and gave it to him saying: "This is my body that goes to be delivered by you; do this in memory of me.” Similarly, after supper, he took the cup, saying: "This cup is the New Alliance in my blood, that will be poured out for you” (Lk 22,7-20) CCC 1339
  • 21. At the Last Supper, the Lord himself drew the attention of his disciples to the fulfillment of Passover in the kingdom of God: "And I tell you, from now on I will not drink of this fruit of the vine until the day I drink it with you." again in my Father's Kingdom" (Mt 26:29).
  • 22. Every time the Church celebrates the Eucharist, it remembers this promise and its gaze is directed towards "the one who is coming". In her prayer, she implores his coming: "Marana tha" (1 Co 16,22), "Come, Lord Jesus" (Rev 22,20), "may your grace come and may this world pass away". CIC 1403
  • 23. CONVERSION AND PENANCE - Jesus calls for conversion. This call is an essential part of the proclamation of the Kingdom: "The time is fulfilled and the Kingdom of God is near; turn and believe in the Good News" (Mk 1,15). In the Church's preaching, this call is addressed primarily to those who do not yet know Christ and his Gospel. CIC 1427
  • 24. SIN - Mortal sin is a radical possibility of human freedom as is love. – It involves the loss of charity and the deprivation of sanctifying grace, that is, of the state of grace. If not rescued by God's repentance and forgiveness, it causes exclusion from the Kingdom of Christ and eternal death in hell; so that our freedom has the power to make choices forever, without return. However, even if we can judge that an act is in itself a serious fault, the judgment on people must be entrusted to the justice and mercy of God.CCC 1861
  • 25. All the sacraments, especially those of Christian initiation, have as their ultimate goal the definitive Easter of the Christian, that is, the one that through death makes the believer enter the life of the Kingdom. Then what faith and hope have confessed is fulfilled in him: "I await the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come”. CIC 1680
  • 26. THE THEOLOGY OF THE KINGDOM Above all, he will bring about the coming of his Kingdom through his great Easter Mystery: his death on the Cross and his Resurrection. "When I am raised from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself" (Jn 12:32). All men are called to this union with Christ. CIC 542
  • 27. The Kingdom of God is before us. - It approaches in the Incarnate Word, it is announced throughout the Gospel, it arrives in the death and Resurrection of Christ.
  • 28. The Kingdom of God comes at the Last Supper and through the Eucharist he is among us.
  • 29. It may even be that the Kingdom of God means Christ in person, whom we call with our voices every day and whose advent we want to hasten byour wait. As it is our Resurrection because we rise in it, it can also be the Kingdom of God because in it we will reign. (Saint Cyprian of Carthage)
  • 30. SATAN'S STRUGGLE AGAINST THE KINGDOM That God allows diabolical activity is a great mystery, but "we know that in all things God intervenes for the good of those who love him" (Rom 8,28)
  • 31. … Satan's power is not infinite. He is only a creature, powerful because he is pure spirit, but only a creature: he cannot prevent the building of the Kingdom of God. Although Satan acts in the world out of hatred against God and his Kingdom in Jesus Christ, and although his action causes serious damage - of a spiritual nature and indirectly even of a physical nature - in each man and in society, this action is permitted by divine providence. that with strength and gentleness directs the history of man and the world. CIC 395
  • 32. THE WITNESSES OF THE KINGDOM The witnesses who have preceded us in the Kingdom, especially those recognized by the Church as "saints", participate in the living tradition of prayer, by the testimony of their lives, by the transmission of their writings and for your prayer today. They contemplate God, praise him and do not stop caring for those who are left on earth.
  • 33. Entering "into the joy" of their Lord, they have been "appointed over much." Your intercession is your highest service to God's plan. We can and must beg them to intercede for us and for the whole world. CIC 2683
