I was never doing “normal” things but instead went the road less traveled.

o Optimism Thosewho knowme best would say that I have six years of highereducation inand don’t know
what the word “fail” means. Thereis truth in that!I might not do as well as I liked, but at the end of the day I
rest easy knowingI gave thetask everythingI had and thereis always tomorrow!

17. Ithink there aregood opportunities tobe hadin the small ruralarea where Ilive.
• Noone has really set up atrue design/art studio other than some sign companies but those arenot much competition.
• The artsarenot supported here including the fact that, in my daugher’s school system, they firedthe artteachers due to
funding issues. Iplan tofill the void by writinga business plan and taking it tothe Chamber of Commerce because Ibelieve
the best thing you can offer a child is the opportunity tobe creative before they lose that skill by notusing it.
• Ialso believe in seeing opportunities, as in the community need for artabove, bypaying attention tothe culture and
climate in yourarea. Community bulletin boardsareexcellent places toleave yourbusiness material as well as any dr.office
etc where it is common practice toleave merchandising materials.

18. Thereare several threats to myworkingas a designer that Ican see potentially occurring.
Timesare still hard in ourrural area whichwill force businesses and private clients to look to in-houseor DIY designs
instead of payinga professional designer to createthem.I plan to mitigate this somewhat byworking for a reduced
amountand then , when Ihavean established clientele, I will be able to afford to increase my rates.
Workingfor reducedrates mightcause me to not be able to keep up with technology as I would like. I have noother
designers near mewith whom Imight be able to share resources suchas tablets or computers. I amnot surewhat to
do about this threat except to keepupvia media on newtechniquesand new products.
Thelast threat is myown health. I almost died last August from complications of a burst appendix. Thewhole
experience served as a wake up call to takebetter care of myhealth. When Iget working andmakingmoney,I am
going to get a familyplan to the local YMCAso we can all enjoy better health.

19. I want to take a moment andthank youfor watching mypresentation. I was dreading this class, inall honesty,
but it has turnedout to be oneof the most beneficial ones I have takenof late. Thething I most enjoyedwas
creating myresume because now Ican be sure that it will be anattention getter. I also knowthat it is well crafted
and can be proud, not wondering, whenI place it in the next interviewer’s hands orneed to send ina copy.
