2. WHAT IS A COVER LETTER?
A Cover Letter has 3 Purposes:
1. It formally introduces you, and can
personalize the presentation of your
resume.
2. It highlights specific information from
your resume and from your background
that applies to a specific field or
position. It can also give reader insight
to items not addressed in a resume.
3. It helps to facilitate a meeting between
you and the employer.
**Always use a cover letter when
mailing or emailing your resume!

3. WHAT IS A COVER LETTER?
Ask These Questions Before Mailing a Cover
Letter:
 Is it clear?
 Does it state what I want it to state?
 Is it concise?
 Does it state what I want with the fewest
possible words?
 Is it well organized?
 Am I projecting to the employer the
contributions I can make?
 Have I stressed areas in my education and/or
experience that are relevant to the employer?
 Has it been spell-checked?
 Has it been checked for proper grammar and
English?
 Have I signed it with blue or black ink?

7. Font
 Use the same Font as your resume
 Be concise
 Spell check, spell check
 Have a guidance counselor or teacher
proof read it
