Web 2.0 Advocate Assignment
   A Voki is a talking picture or avatar.
   It can be used by students and teachers for
    different reasons.
   A Voki can grab attention of its viewers
   A Voki can keep students engaged in
    learning.
   Vokis can help students who are shy or reluctant
    to get up in front of their peers to give an oral
    book report.
   Voki can allow them to complete a requirement
    of an oral presentation in a more comfortable
    way.
   Voki can help some students who are reluctant to
    get up in front of their peers to give an oral book
    report. Voki can allow them to complete a
    requirement of an oral presentation in a more
    comfortable way.
   Voki can also be used by teachers to introduce a
    lesson. Students can view the Voki from home
    since this tool is web-based.

   An article by Huang and Lin states
    that, “Vokis increase opportunities for oral
    practice and metalinguistic awareness. Vokis
    offer students extra opportunities to practice
    speaking. Students noted that online
    recordings enabled them to rehearse and
    self-monitor the tone and pronunciation of
    their own speech, as well as having the ability
    to wait to submit their recording only when
    they felt satisfied with it.”
   Voki also offers a different kind of
    presentation appeal for students of all ages.
    Students and teachers can create a variety of
    avatars for various presentations.

   Voki is available at all times, so students who
    are absent can view presentations of other
    students, or teacher created
    lessons, whenever they return, or while at
    home.
   National Educational Technology Standards
    for students (#4 Technology communications
    tools) state that students should use a variety
    of media and formats to communicate
    information and ideas effectively to multiple
    audiences.

   Standard #3 (Technology productivity tools)
    states that students use technology tools to
    enhance learning, increase productivity, and
    promote creativity.
Voki needs to be unblocked.
