So your problem is
Ahha Murli! Nice to see you. But why are

I am going through a real bad
time....... Don't worry. Whenever people are

Murli narrated his whole problem. really like to help people.

Now tell us, why do you want to
     plough your field? How?

We can give you something that can
make you so rich that you would not be
required to plough your field for the
     rest of your life.

Do you see this goat? It is not an ordinary goat. Its
milk has got magical powers. Anybody who drinks its
milk cannot forget its taste all his life.

                                                                                      ar

It gives ten buckets of milk
everyday and it is so sweet
that you do not need to add
                                                         any sugar.

You can make plenty of sweets out of
the goat's milk everyday and sell that Soon you will have enough
in the nearby market. money to start your own

With one shop that does good
business, you can soon put up
ten more shops and very soon

                                                        businessman.

                                                                                        5
Yes! Yes! I will become a rich
Oh! I really don't have any
    businessman. It sounds so easy.
                                                            money.
Please give this magical goat to
    me.

                                       But this goat is
                                       precious to us.
                                       What will you give
                                       in return?

Don't worry Murli. We really want to That land is in any case useless for you
help you. You give us your land in now. And you can repurchase it from
exchange for this goat. us once you become rich.

6
Oh! I understand. Ok, I will give you my Congratulations Murli. This magical
land in exchange for the goat. goat is now yours.

Chander brings out a paper on which he
writes that Murli has given them his piece
of land in exchange for the goat. Murli
puts his thumb impression on the paper.

Champa is shocked to hear that he
exchanged their land for the goat.
And your land is now ours.
How could you believe whatever they

                                              this magical goat to you.

Murli happily goes home with the goat. What should I do now?

                                                                                    7
I think you should go and meet Raju and Murli left in search of Raju.
Gopi Chacha. Raju is knowledgeable and
Gopi Chacha is very wise. They always help
    people in need.

Raju was sitting along with Gopi Chacha, Shamu, Bhola and Go pa l.

Murli joins them and narrates his full
                                                 story.

But it will cost a lot of money. Where

tricked you. Anyway, don't worry. Let's
see what we can do to get your land back.
And then get you a new bullock .

Well, you can take a loan from the bank
                                            and purchase the bullock.

And you can repay your loan with the But Raju, will the bank give loan to Murli
money you earn later by selling your Chacha for a bullock? He has nothing
produce. left with him now.

Why not Gopal. Banks give loans
                                                  for a variety of purposes.

                                                                                         9
For purchasing a tractor, seeds, fertilisers For all these purposes, even our
and farming equipment. moneylender Dhaniram will give a loan.
Then why should we go to the bank?

Banks also give loans for constructing a
house or a shop or starting a business,
for buying vehicles for taxi service,
rickshaws, for education, etc. Banks also
give loan to purchase a bullock.

So you have to pay him Rs 105 every

repay the entire amount of Rs. 1260.

                    He asks you to repay

                                                has charged you?

10
All look puzzled.
Now let us see how much interest the
26 percent ! bank will charge. Banks charge normally
upto 7 percent interest per annum on
                                         loans.

                                                              Loan
                                                            Application

       In fact, moneylenders like
       Dhaniram may charge interest as
       high as 100 percent.

Let's say your bank asks for 7 percent
interest for giving loan to purchase a
                                         bullock.

It means that you pay only RS 70 as Then there is one more benefit. You

not for activities like gambling and drinking.
Only if you earn, you will be able to repay
