to use technology to captivate, motivate
and ultimately move students toward
greater learning in the visual arts.
• To discover ways to use technology to
enhance and improve: COMMUNICATION
(blogs, website, edmodo, INSTRUCTION
(videos, iPads, applications, programs),
ENGAGEMENT (for all learners), AND
PRODUCTIVITY!
• Equip art teachers with resources, lessons and
experiences using technology in the art room to
MAKE YOUR JOB EASIER!

Technology‘.
Introductions using
Poll Everywhere- Mobile
Learning
•Get out your cell phones!!!
• Poll everywhere is a free easy to use application
that works well for live audiences using mobile
devices like phones.
• People participate by visiting a fast mobile-friendly
web page for your event, sending text messages,
or using Twitter.
• Instructions are displayed on-screen.
• Not all teachers have access to computers or
iPads for students to use in their art rooms, but if
you acquire Administration and Parent permission
students could bring their smart phones, iPads, or
iPods from home to use during art.
Technology Integration asks …
Teachers to teach in ways they
were never taught using tools
that were not invented when
they were in school.
Teachers need to be innovative,
content driven, and process
oriented to ultimately improve
student achievement.
Session Objectives:
 Teachers will enhance PRODUCTIVITY using a lesson plan
template using google spreadsheets or EXCEL
 Teachers will ENHANCE COMMUNICATION using the
following technology
1. Teachers will create a classroom website using Wordpress or
Weebly
2. Teachers will know about Google Docs, collaborate on a
shared google presentation (about me presentation- lesson
plan template)
3. Teachers will learn to communicate/share with other art
teachers- Dropbox – Curtis Lewis
4. Teachers will understand and be able to use Edmodo with their
students in order to encourage appropriate art criticism,
communication and discussion.
 Teachers will understand how to enhance INSTRUCTION
using iPads to deliver and differentiate instruction.
 Teachers will leave with a digital portfolio with links to all
their resources!!!
Let‘s get started!!
PRODUCTIVITY!!
With the new Common core standards, the
push for EOC‘s teachers are expected to do
more with less time and resources than ever
before. Technology can make our jobs
easier!!!!

Google tools; free, powerful
real time collaboration
If you already have a google account- you
can log in, view, save a copy for yourself and
edit it anytime you like!!!
Google has their own version of WORD,
SPREADSHEETs, WEBSITES, and Presentations
(powerpoint) But teachers and students can
collaborate on them together in real time.
Google Presentations- Digital
portfolio
You will complete this task by creating
a Collaborative Google
Presentation. This is a collaborative
project that your students could
post pictures of their artwork and
comment on another student‘s
Go to: Google presentation
Copy each presentation slide and
customize it by adding your own
information. Feel free to work with a
partner or independently- Share

Share!!!
• Let‘s see how we did!
Communication Tools
and Art Criticism- Edmodo
• Edmodo is an online communication
tool that can be used my art teachers to
1. Have students post pictures of their artwork
2. Learn how to make constructive comments on
their artwork and the work of others using the
ELEMENTS AND principles of art.
3. Extend learning beyond the classroom
https://www.edmodo.com/home
Communication Tools: Class
Websites- Wordpress- Why?
• A well-designed website will
• greatly enhance
• communication between you and your students
• You’re creating an archive of your class –
complete with the exact materials you’ve used
• A teaching website keeps you organized and on
track
• It’s getting so easy to do that it can actually
save you time
• You have an easy answer to “What did I miss?”
• Your contributions go farther than you think
• It’s okay to show off
• It’s your gateway to engagement
Communication
Wordpress Websites
Wordpress – From Mr. Clark
Many of the teachers may have existing websites in
FirstClass with web pages and content on them. Rather
than linking to their blank WordPress site from their
school website, I can send you the web addresses of
each art teacher‘s WordPress site. Then the teachers
can work on their WordPress sites during your training
session and email me when they are ready to go live
with their new site.
Please note that District is using a self-hosted version of
WordPress, which is different from WordPress.com. No
one will need to register an account. One I have
provisioned their WordPress sites, they will be able to log
right in to edit the site using the same e00 username
and password which they use to login to their
computer, FirstClass and Sungard BusinessPlus.

Difference between Posts and Pages?
*Note: Posts are entries
organized by categories
automatically making the site
more user-friendly for you, your
visitors and search engines.
If you use ―posts‖ and ―categories‖,
Wordpress can organize your site
navigation and information architecture
for you. This is one of the biggest
advantages to using a Content
Management System (CMS) program
instead of coding individual web pages
by hand.
Organizing around posts can also
improve page, especially if you create
categories based on your keyword
phrases.

iPads in Art!
• Today is an exciting time to be
an art teacher!
New technology makes teaching Art and
learning Art a whole new experience.
• iPads bring a whole other layer to creative learning.
Students are very much actively participating in the
learning. iPads provide a quick method of art
production, manipulation, and exploration - all
without the need for putting on a paint shirt! The
possibilities for what knowledge can be found and
artwork created using this wonderful tech tool is
endless. New apps are constantly being created.
in-art.html
Access to iPads?
• Our school is going to 1 to 1. Currently , the
iPad art projects were done with a 2 to 1
student to iPad ratio. So students had to bring
their iPads to art and partners had to share.
• If you only have one iPad, you will have to
consider how to manage use of your iPad in
order to complete digital art projects.
• If you do not have iPads, you may want to
consider a grant, fundraiser, or other project in
order to buy devices like iPods, iTouch, or
other mobile device.
The other option is organizing a BYOD- Bring your
own device to art.

http://drydenart.weebly.com/creating-on-ipads.html
Reflector
• Reflector is an AirPlay receiver that allows
you to wirelessly display your iPad or
iPhone on your computer. Mirror your
device on a big screen without wires or
complicated setups. Play games, watch
movies, demo apps or present on the big
screen from your iPhone or iPad. With
Reflector, everything you do on your
mobile device is wirelessly streamed to
your computer in real time!
If you have an iPad and a projector, you
can use REFLECTOR to broadcast your
screen

iPad apps for Productivity
• iMovie- Take pictures or video yourself
doing your lesson. Upload your video to
youtube. Play it for each class and put it
on your webpage for students to review
at home- FLIPPED LEARNING!!
• Use iMovie to take pictures of student
work. Upload video to youtube and
embed it in your web page as a student
gallery
• NUMBERS app- Numbers is a spreadsheet
app that I use to keep track of student
progress (MY MARZANO GOAL) I mark
attendence, stop and think, treasure box
and when they finish art work.- It‘s a little
pricy (I paid 9.99!! Ugh)

Third Piece: The content
curriculum and standards
The International Society for Technology in
Education (ISTE) believes that:
―To live, learn, and work successful in an increasingly
complex and information-rich society, students
must be able to use technology effectively.‖
They developed standards to guide educational
Leaders in recognizing and addressing the
conditions for effective use of technology to
support Pre K-12 education. They state, ―Within an
effective educational setting, technology can
enable students to become--Capable
information technology users:
• Information seekers, analyzers, and evaluators
• Problem solvers and decision makers
• Creative and effective users of productivity tools
• Communicators, collaborators, publishers, and
producers
• Informed, responsible, and contributing citizens
Last piece: Technology Tools
• What tools do you have at your
school site?
• What software or hard ware
restrictions are there?
• What type of room set up and
computer preparation is
necessary?
• Do you know how to use, charge,
upload and download all the
equipment in your lesson?
• How do you select equipment to
use?
Tech Tools
• Digital Cameras
• Software
• Scanners, document cameras,
tablet pcs, Smartboards, hand held
response system, digital video
cameras, ipods
• What are there functions?
• Try it before you teach it!
• Evaluate tools to match your needs
and class size.
• VISUAL TOOLS-remember 70% more
Obstacles to Technology
Integration
• No access to computers/equipment
• Lack Time (to learn, to plan, to organize, to search
internet, etc)
• No budget or high costs
• Class sizes
• Preparing for standardized tests
• Lack teacher training
• Set curriculum or standards
• Technical problems (not admin. of machine)
• Network down
• Power Outage
• Intimidating—non-expert status
• Too many strategies to try now—one more thing.
TOP TEN INTEGRATION TIPS
1. Start with a lesson you are very familiar with
and have taught before
1. Focus on the learning objective
2. Make it interactive and fun
3. Problem based activities will engage and make
relevant for students.
4. Do it yourself FIRST (see one, do one, teach one)
5. Build relationships
6. Talk about copyright often!
7. Know the standards (state, NETS, Information
Literacy Standards)
8. Revise teaching style to accommodate
technology (adaptation)
9. Use peer observations and online video
demonstrations as often as possible to learn more!
10. Tap into your students‘ creativity
Your Story
• Using PhotoStory and the 10 images
you selected earlier, create a digital
story about where you are in the
technology integration process and
describe three goals you have for
increasing the amount of technology
enhanced lessons you will deliver in
the next year!
That is a WRAP!
• Workshop evaluation
and sharing!
• Questions and answers!
• Many thanks for your
dedication, time and
effort today!
• Enjoy your day!!
• Follow up emails at:
jamie.wardley@stjohns.k12.fl.us
Recap Session Objectives:
• We learned how to collaborate on a google
presentation live.
• We created a word press website.
• We discussed and brainstormed technology and art
lessons using the ipads.
• Discuss how to make effective decisions about the
choice of technologies they utilize in their classrooms,
and how to evaluate student products.
• Teachers will leave with a completed technology
enhanced unit plan for their classroom ready to
implement!
How to begin? PIZZA process!
• Making good choices leads to effective
time management. Teachers have to
determine what their students need to
learn for each assignment.
• Then they choose the best way to provide
the material and the best way for students
to learn it. They can begin by enhancing
lessons with technology.
• They start by identifying the objectives of
a lesson and looking for ways to infuse
technology into activities.
• VIEW UNIT LESSON
PLANNING TOOLS
Find Creative Solutions to
problems with Web 2.0 tools
• For example: What can I do when it
takes students too long to search
the internet:
booksite for students sites
• www.del.icio.us
bookmarking tool tags collective
• www.Truthinker.com

  • 8. Introductions using Poll Everywhere- Mobile Learning •Get out your cell phones!!! • Poll everywhere is a free easy to use application that works well for live audiences using mobile devices like phones. • People participate by visiting a fast mobile-friendly web page for your event, sending text messages, or using Twitter. • Instructions are displayed on-screen. • Not all teachers have access to computers or iPads for students to use in their art rooms, but if you acquire Administration and Parent permission students could bring their smart phones, iPads, or iPods from home to use during art.
  • 9.
  • 10. Technology Integration asks … Teachers to teach in ways they were never taught using tools that were not invented when they were in school. Teachers need to be innovative, content driven, and process oriented to ultimately improve student achievement.
  • 11. Session Objectives:  Teachers will enhance PRODUCTIVITY using a lesson plan template using google spreadsheets or EXCEL  Teachers will ENHANCE COMMUNICATION using the following technology 1. Teachers will create a classroom website using Wordpress or Weebly 2. Teachers will know about Google Docs, collaborate on a shared google presentation (about me presentation- lesson plan template) 3. Teachers will learn to communicate/share with other art teachers- Dropbox – Curtis Lewis 4. Teachers will understand and be able to use Edmodo with their students in order to encourage appropriate art criticism, communication and discussion.  Teachers will understand how to enhance INSTRUCTION using iPads to deliver and differentiate instruction.  Teachers will leave with a digital portfolio with links to all their resources!!!
  • 12. Let‘s get started!! PRODUCTIVITY!! With the new Common core standards, the push for EOC‘s teachers are expected to do more with less time and resources than ever before. Technology can make our jobs easier!!!! EXAMPLE: A Lesson Planning tool with DROP DOWN MENU WITH ALL STANDARDS!!!!! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?k ey=0AsUQ1EL5pTZVdFF5VkxYQmpiSy1tOHBYT DFXMVoySVE&usp=drive_web#gid=0
  • 13. Student Assessment • GAMES!!!! • https://jeopardylabs.com/play/elements-of-art-jeopardy-game
  • 14. Google tools; free, powerful real time collaboration If you already have a google account- you can log in, view, save a copy for yourself and edit it anytime you like!!! Google has their own version of WORD, SPREADSHEETs, WEBSITES, and Presentations (powerpoint) But teachers and students can collaborate on them together in real time.
  • 15. Google Presentations- Digital portfolio You will complete this task by creating a Collaborative Google Presentation. This is a collaborative project that your students could post pictures of their artwork and comment on another student‘s Go to: Google presentation Copy each presentation slide and customize it by adding your own information. Feel free to work with a partner or independently- Share time 6 minutes
  • 17. Communication Tools and Art Criticism- Edmodo • Edmodo is an online communication tool that can be used my art teachers to 1. Have students post pictures of their artwork 2. Learn how to make constructive comments on their artwork and the work of others using the ELEMENTS AND principles of art. 3. Extend learning beyond the classroom https://www.edmodo.com/home
  • 18. Communication Tools: Class Websites- Wordpress- Why? • A well-designed website will • greatly enhance • communication between you and your students • You’re creating an archive of your class – complete with the exact materials you’ve used • A teaching website keeps you organized and on track • It’s getting so easy to do that it can actually save you time • You have an easy answer to “What did I miss?” • Your contributions go farther than you think • It’s okay to show off • It’s your gateway to engagement
  • 20. Wordpress – From Mr. Clark Many of the teachers may have existing websites in FirstClass with web pages and content on them. Rather than linking to their blank WordPress site from their school website, I can send you the web addresses of each art teacher‘s WordPress site. Then the teachers can work on their WordPress sites during your training session and email me when they are ready to go live with their new site. Please note that District is using a self-hosted version of WordPress, which is different from WordPress.com. No one will need to register an account. One I have provisioned their WordPress sites, they will be able to log right in to edit the site using the same e00 username and password which they use to login to their computer, FirstClass and Sungard BusinessPlus.
  • 25. A Look at the Software’s Backend: WP-Admin and The Dashboard 27 ^ Example B: Dashboard Overview - Content Management < Example C: Write a Post – Visual Editor
  • 28. Difference between Posts and Pages? *Note: Posts are entries organized by categories automatically making the site more user-friendly for you, your visitors and search engines. If you use ―posts‖ and ―categories‖, Wordpress can organize your site navigation and information architecture for you. This is one of the biggest advantages to using a Content Management System (CMS) program instead of coding individual web pages by hand. Organizing around posts can also improve page, especially if you create categories based on your keyword phrases.
  • 31. CUSTOMIZING YOUR LAYOUT: Activate PLUGINS • Plugins: Tons of free plugins are available – Think of mini-applications that automate an action 1. Fonts; http://wordpress.org/plugins/font/ 2. Marquee SCROLLING MESSAGE : marquee 3. • 38. iPads in Art! • Today is an exciting time to be an art teacher! New technology makes teaching Art and learning Art a whole new experience. • iPads bring a whole other layer to creative learning. Students are very much actively participating in the learning. iPads provide a quick method of art production, manipulation, and exploration - all without the need for putting on a paint shirt! The possibilities for what knowledge can be found and artwork created using this wonderful tech tool is endless. New apps are constantly being created. • http://ipadsintheartroom.weebly.com/blog---ipads- in-art.html
  • 39. Access to iPads? • Our school is going to 1 to 1. Currently , the iPad art projects were done with a 2 to 1 student to iPad ratio. So students had to bring their iPads to art and partners had to share. • If you only have one iPad, you will have to consider how to manage use of your iPad in order to complete digital art projects. • If you do not have iPads, you may want to consider a grant, fundraiser, or other project in order to buy devices like iPods, iTouch, or other mobile device. The other option is organizing a BYOD- Bring your own device to art. http://vimeo.com/37139088 http://drydenart.weebly.com/creating-on-ipads.html

Third Piece: The content curriculum and standards The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) believes that: ―To live, learn, and work successful in an increasingly complex and information-rich society, students must be able to use technology effectively.‖ They developed standards to guide educational Leaders in recognizing and addressing the conditions for effective use of technology to support Pre K-12 education. They state, ―Within an effective educational setting, technology can enable students to become--Capable information technology users: • Information seekers, analyzers, and evaluators • Problem solvers and decision makers • Creative and effective users of productivity tools • Communicators, collaborators, publishers, and producers • Informed, responsible, and contributing citizens
  • 59. Last piece: Technology Tools • What tools do you have at your school site? • What software or hard ware restrictions are there? • What type of room set up and computer preparation is necessary? • Do you know how to use, charge, upload and download all the equipment in your lesson? • How do you select equipment to use?
  • 60. Tech Tools • Digital Cameras • Software • Scanners, document cameras, tablet pcs, Smartboards, hand held response system, digital video cameras, ipods • What are there functions? • Try it before you teach it! • Evaluate tools to match your needs and class size. • VISUAL TOOLS-remember 70% more
  • 61. Obstacles to Technology Integration • No access to computers/equipment • Lack Time (to learn, to plan, to organize, to search internet, etc) • No budget or high costs • Class sizes • Preparing for standardized tests • Lack teacher training • Set curriculum or standards • Technical problems (not admin. of machine) • Network down • Power Outage • Intimidating—non-expert status • Too many strategies to try now—one more thing.
  • 62. TOP TEN INTEGRATION TIPS 1. Start with a lesson you are very familiar with and have taught before 1. Focus on the learning objective 2. Make it interactive and fun 3. Problem based activities will engage and make relevant for students. 4. Do it yourself FIRST (see one, do one, teach one) 5. Build relationships 6. Talk about copyright often! 7. Know the standards (state, NETS, Information Literacy Standards) 8. Revise teaching style to accommodate technology (adaptation) 9. Use peer observations and online video demonstrations as often as possible to learn more! 10. Tap into your students‘ creativity
  • 63. Your Story • Using PhotoStory and the 10 images you selected earlier, create a digital story about where you are in the technology integration process and describe three goals you have for increasing the amount of technology enhanced lessons you will deliver in the next year!
  • 64. That is a WRAP! • Workshop evaluation and sharing! • Questions and answers! • Many thanks for your dedication, time and effort today! • Enjoy your day!! • Follow up emails at: jamie.wardley@stjohns.k12.fl.us
  • 65. Recap Session Objectives: • We learned how to collaborate on a google presentation live. • We created a word press website. • We discussed and brainstormed technology and art lessons using the ipads. • Discuss how to make effective decisions about the choice of technologies they utilize in their classrooms, and how to evaluate student products. • Teachers will leave with a completed technology enhanced unit plan for their classroom ready to implement!
  • 66. How to begin? PIZZA process! • Making good choices leads to effective time management. Teachers have to determine what their students need to learn for each assignment. • Then they choose the best way to provide the material and the best way for students to learn it. They can begin by enhancing lessons with technology. • They start by identifying the objectives of a lesson and looking for ways to infuse technology into activities. • VIEW UNIT LESSON PLANNING TOOLS
  • 67. Find Creative Solutions to problems with Web 2.0 tools • For example: What can I do when it takes students too long to search the internet: • www.Ikeepbookmarks.com booksite for students sites • www.del.icio.us bookmarking tool tags collective • www.Truthinker.com pay service to organize internet sites
