4. 10 Things Students Need to Know
• College admissions and employers read your online profiles.
• Teachers and parents see, read, and hear about what you do
online.
• What it means to be a good digital citizen.
• Create a simple digital profile of yourself with non-specific
details.
• Create separate accounts “professional vs. personal”. Increase
privacy settings on all accounts, limit what you post on your
personal accounts and share publicly all the great things you’re
doing using your professional account.

5. 10 Things Students Need to Know
• Learn from others. Make informed decisions on what personal
material is appropriate to share publicly, and what is not.
• The internet is permanent. What you post or send never truly
disappears.
• The Golden Rule: Don’t hide behind the veil of your computer screen.
Would you say in person, what you’re thinking of posting online?
• Don’t be afraid of making mistakes, but do be careful. Don’t be too
open or too trusting online.
• Build a positive image. You’re branding yourself. Take this opportunity
to show the world all the amazing things you can do.
