The atmosphere is divided into five layers: 1) The troposphere, where weather occurs and most clouds form. 2) The stratosphere, which contains the ozone layer that absorbs ultraviolet rays and solar radiation. 3) The mesosphere, the coldest layer where most meteors burn up. 4) The thermosphere, also known as the ionosphere, is the highest layer and facilitates radio communication by reflecting radio waves. It also absorbs high energy photons from the sun and produces the aurora.
