Location manager
In the role of location manager they must firstly work in pre- production with the director where they are able to get
an insight into what the final product is to look like by doing this they are then able to understand what kind of
location is needed for the shooting. They are then able to go out visiting and researching different locations to find
one that is best suitable for the director’s final vision.
For this job being creative is key, as you must have a good imagination to be able to picture if a location will be fitting
for different scenes as well as make sure the director will also accept it. Communication and organisation skills are
also vital as it can be very difficult to gain permission to use locations and so that all the fees needed for the location
are in the given budget although this is manly a managerial job as when in this role you have full power in the
choosing of the location as this managed it is then simply accepted by the director.
The location manager has a range of different roles after the location has been chosen which are for example making
sure that there are no aspects of the location that could disturb filming for example noise as well as making sure
there is access for vehicles needed bringing in equipment and making sure everything else connected to the location
in organised and finally when filming is done that the location is handed back in the same condition.
The key responsibility is that when choosing the location it is in the budget that is given and that it has all the aspects
that are needed form the director to film as well as not having anything that could disrupt filming to a point where
the crew would then be unable to film for example no access for vehicles, too much noise and many other aspects
and finally making sure that no real damage is made to the location and it is handed back as it was received
The main person whom the location manager works with is the director as there is constant communication making
sure that they are both aware of what is wanted for the location and what is accessible with the budget available
although this is only during pre production during production there are a range of different people the location
manager works with as it is there job to make sure the location is safe at all times and no health and safety rules are
breached.

Visual effects creative director
This role is common when a television program uses a large amount of visual effects in some cases the
nature of the role involves working closely with the director of the show although if it is for example a
small production like a TV commercial including heavy visual effects then there may be no director and
the visual effects creative director will take this position too
Doing this job means being in charge of the creative and technical execution of all the visual effects and
making sure these all look smooth. This can be a very creative job so you must have artistic skill as well
as of course very technical. The jobs that involve include digital animation, composition, blue screening,
set extensions and digital effects
As well as the main duties they must perform from digital animation to digital effects a visual effects
creative director also gets involved in other key stages of production for example in pre production they
can be involved in the development of the storyboard as this will then effect them when it comes to
making he visual effects as well as helping chose a location and even costume and make up if there must
be considerations made for the special effects.
And so their responsibilities are to make sure in the end they are able to perform all the visual effects
needed and that everything is filmed correctly so that this is possible. As a result throughout they must
work with all sorts of different people to make sure things go to plan for example the director, story
board writer, location manager and many more.

Camera operator
This job role requires the person to ensure that cameras and all the equipment needed to film are rigged for the

This job is very technical and a great technical ability is required for this job as well as a wide knowledge of how
the camera works although communication skills are also needed as you will be needed to talk to casts and tell
the what to do better to make sure the composition is correct.
Dependent on the kind of show being filmed different strategies are used if it is a multi-camera shoot then
camera operators are given instructions on what shots to produce this maybe given as precise choreographed
instructions or as a list of shots that are needed the operator then must produce these.
The key responsibility or the operator is to produce all the shots they have been asked for and make sure that
everything that needs to be in shot is as well as make sure they are communicating with the cast so that they
have constructive advice on where to go and what they can do better for the out come on the camera.
There are a range of different people this job offers you to work with as the operator has one of the main roles
the must work with the cast to make sure they are all standing in the correct places and it is all framed correctly
as well as with make up and costume to make sure everything looks right on camera and there aren’t things that
come up too overpowering.

producer of what kind of actors they want and the going out and finding the correct people to fit in with the roles
to do this job you must have an up to date knowledge of new and upcoming talent as well as existing talent.
This is a creative role as you must be able to picture actors in roles that maybe very different to their actual look
but after make will make sense and fit well as well as this organisation is needed to plan casting where actors can
come in the hundreds for one role
The duties are finding the right actor for each role and once this is done and all roles have been filled the casting
directors job is then finished key responsibilities include making sure the actor is aware off what will be wanted of
them and that each member of the cast is able to perform in the way that is needed if this is not achieved then the
casting director has not performed their job correctly.
The casting director through out their job role work with the cast of course finding each role the fitting person to

This is the role in which the person creates a screenplay the film or television programme will then be
based on what is written here. Some scripts are first written and then the screen writer goes and finds a
director or producer to invest time into the script and make it an actual film or show and in other cases the
writer is hired by a director or television company to write for them and produce something they may
already have the overall idea for
This is a very creative role as the writer must be able to use there imagination to picture how things will
work and make sure the story will make sense as well as make it interesting throughout for an audience
They duties in this role are building a story line that will capture the target audiences attention and will be
entertaining throughout as well as this make sure that it is possible to be created in real life by actors
As well as this some responsibilities may be to get a director or television business to take their script and
make it into a show or film and this can be a very hard task this is why scripts must be very much different
and out of the box and being a very creative writer can help a huge amount in this.
Depending on weather they are doing it independently or with a television company, scriptwriters can work
with directors and any group of people with an idea that they can then produce into a full script
7. Organisation
Production manager
This job mainly involves preparing schedules for production and script breakdowns to make sure that there
is enough time to film everything and the film is finished in the correct time without this there is no

This role takes a lot of organisation skills as they must be able to produce a schedule that will make sense
and fit in with everything that is happening as well as all the people working on sets schedules, another
problem would be making sure that the production manager is aware of how long each process takes as
without this knowledge they would not be able to produce a schedule that works and can be followed
Main duties in this role is making sure there is enough funding and the right amount of money is being
used for each thing and also that there is no time wasted and each process takes the amount of time it
should and no more this will then result to finishing on time the responsibilities of this person are to make
sure that all the people on set are on track and everyone is doing their job in good timing.
This job would mean to work with almost all of the people involved in the production of the film or show as
you need to communicate with the different colleagues and have an understanding of how much time they
need for each task and then through this information you can make a schedule that can be followed
