What’s the concept?
• M-B is like a map that measures our
  preferences in 4 areas
• These 4 areas are the foundation upon which
  our personalities develop throughout our
  lifetime
• It does not measure how good we are at
  something, or how much we have of it, only
  how clear we are that we prefer one way over
  another

What’s the concept?
• In each of these 4 areas, we prefer one way
  over another
• Because the areas relate to how our brain
  works, we are born with these personality
  patterns
• These patterns don’t change over time, but
  we can adapt how we choose to use them at
  time, in any situation

• Lots of things influence how well we develop
  our personality preferences:
  – Family upbringing
  – Education
  – Career
  – Opportunities we get
  – Opportunities we don’t get

What’s the concept?
Whether we’re right-handed or left-handed,
    we are capable of using both hands…
         but we naturally prefer
                     one over the other.

We can choose to use our non-preferred hand
any time we want to…
                          BUT when we do…

Things take longer.
  Stress and frustration go up.
        Quality goes down.
              We have to really think about
                    what we’re doing.

   It’s a less successful experience overall.

So it stands to reason…
… that if we identify our 4 preferences,
  and choose to use them every day,
    – both at work and at home –
           we will find our life
         much more satisfying.

         Introversion or Extraversion
              Sensing or iNtuition
              Thinking or Feeling

• Introversion
  – You recharge your batteries best when you can
    take time to be alone or with a small group where
    you can take the time to think and reflect
                           OR
• Extraversion
  – You get your energy from being around other
    people and engaging in activities, and usually, the
    more the merrier

• Some people are really hard to read or get to
  know and others are like an open book
• Some people prefer to communicate in writing
  even when the other person is close by
• Workplaces full of noise and activity can be
  energizing for some and exhausting for others

• Sensing
  – You notice and want all the details associated with
    your 5 senses and anything that is real and in the
    here-and-now

    relationships between the details and what it all

  order and others seem to jump around all
  over the place
• Some people need to ask all the detail

• Thinking
  – You’ll use a logical process that is
    objective, analytical and removed from the
    situation, people and events
                             OR
• Feeling
  – You’ll use a more sensitive and empathetic
    approach that takes into consideration how you
    and others feel

• Some people seem to always take things
  personally and others seem like they never do
• Some people always seem to notice what’s
  wrong where others always seem to notice
  what’s right
• Some people are sticklers for the rules
  regardless of circumstances, and others may

• Judging
  – You like to live your life in an organized
    fashion, having plans, structure and closure so
    things can be settled
                              OR
• Perceiving
  – You’d rather live your life in a spontaneous
    way, keeping your options open and staying
    flexible to change

  always late
• Some people are energized by deadlines and
  last minute requests, and the same thing
  causes others to have a melt down

• M-B is a very complex theory, which is why it
  requires a certified practitioner to facilitate it
• Some people misinterpret the meaning of the
  information, so it’s important to have an
  opportunity to ask questions
• It’s not a label or a box that someone is trying
  to force on you
• But it IS private information that you choose
  to share with others as you see fit

What’s the concept? • M-B is like a map that measures our preferences in 4 areas • These 4 areas are the foundation upon which our personalities develop throughout our lifetime • It does not measure how good we are at something, or how much we have of it, only how clear we are that we prefer one way over another www.dawnfrail.com

What’s the concept? • In each of these 4 areas, we prefer one way over another • Because the areas relate to how our brain works, we are born with these personality patterns • These patterns don’t change over time, but we can adapt how we choose to use them at time, in any situation www.dawnfrail.com
  • 28. What’s the concept? • Lots of things influence how well we develop our personality preferences: – Family upbringing – Education – Career – Opportunities we get – Opportunities we don’t get www.dawnfrail.com
  • 29. What’s the concept? Whether we’re right-handed or left-handed, we are capable of using both hands… but we naturally prefer one over the other. We can choose to use our non-preferred hand any time we want to… BUT when we do… www.dawnfrail.com
  • 30. Things take longer. Stress and frustration go up. Quality goes down. We have to really think about what we’re doing. It’s a less successful experience overall. www.dawnfrail.com
  • 31. So it stands to reason… … that if we identify our 4 preferences, and choose to use them every day, – both at work and at home – we will find our life much more satisfying. DUH!! www.dawnfrail.com
  • 32. 4 Preference Areas By identifying your preference in 4 areas, you end up with a 4-letter M-B Type For example, I’m an ISTJ www.dawnfrail.com
  • 33. 4 Letters, 2 choices each Each of the 4 positions in your type profile represent a choice between 2 preferences Introversion or Extraversion Sensing or iNtuition Thinking or Feeling Judging or Perceiving www.dawnfrail.com

Where do you get your energy; what do you naturally pay attention to? • Introversion – You recharge your batteries best when you can take time to be alone or with a small group where you can take the time to think and reflect OR • Extraversion – You get your energy from being around other people and engaging in activities, and usually, the more the merrier www.dawnfrail.com

This can us help understand why… • Some people are really hard to read or get to know and others are like an open book • Some people prefer to communicate in writing even when the other person is close by • Workplaces full of noise and activity can be energizing for some and exhausting for others • Some people seem to naturally think on their feet and others seem to want to fully bake their ideas before they say a word www.dawnfrail.com

How does your brain prefer to take in information? • Sensing – You notice and want all the details associated with your 5 senses and anything that is real and in the here-and-now OR • iNtuition – You notice and want to understand the relationships between the details and what it all means www.dawnfrail.com

This can us help understand why… • Some people want to talk about things in order and others seem to jump around all over the place • Some people need to ask all the detail questions that cause others to want to scream in agony • Some people are always finding new and creative ways to approach things instead of just doing it the way it works www.dawnfrail.com

What’s the process your brain prefers to use to make a decision? • Thinking – You’ll use a logical process that is objective, analytical and removed from the situation, people and events OR • Feeling – You’ll use a more sensitive and empathetic approach that takes into consideration how you and others feel www.dawnfrail.com

This can us help understand why… • Some people seem to always take things personally and others seem like they never do • Some people always seem to notice what’s wrong where others always seem to notice what’s right • Some people are sticklers for the rules regardless of circumstances, and others may put aside the letter of the law in order to apply the spirit of the law www.dawnfrail.com

How do you prefer to live in the outside world? • Judging – You like to live your life in an organized fashion, having plans, structure and closure so things can be settled OR • Perceiving – You’d rather live your life in a spontaneous way, keeping your options open and staying flexible to change www.dawnfrail.com
