Julio Casal founded 4iQ after working in cyber security in Madrid in the 1990s. He searched for a product to commercialize and settled on open source security tools. 4iQ grew organically with open source downloads and referrals leading to customers in 25 countries by 2010. Casal then moved 4iQ to Silicon Valley for its larger competitive landscape and raised venture capital funding. 4iQ's newest product, 4iQ IDLake, collects and analyzes exposed identity data to help organizations assess cyber risks to executives, employees, and assets. Casal's journey growing 4iQ from Spain to an acquisition in Silicon Valley is an example of a successful Spanish startup exit.
