Air Etiquette
• Airline etiquette begins when you alight from your vehicle at
the airport
• Unless you have a small bag on wheels, you should use a
trolley and put your bag on it
• At the line for the luggage x-ray, be patient and help attendant
put your luggage on the machine belt.
• Proceed to the luggage counter and wait for your turn to come
to state your seating preferences and others

• At the queue for security check or waiting for the bus to take
you to the aircraft wait for your turn
• Do not carry banned items onto the aircraft
• Do not carry more luggage than you are permitted
• On entering the flight, look out for your seat, stow your
luggage in the overhead locker and seat yourself
• Before putting away your bags take out the reading material
from it.

• An aisle seat is preferred if you want to walk around to stretch
legs often
• Do not call for the flight attendant until it is absolutely
necessary. Be patient with them
• If you want to converse with your neighbour, check to see if
he/she is willing to do so. He/she may be wanting to
read/sleep.
• If you do not want to speak to your neighbour, you, should
explain politely that you want to sleep or read to prepare for a
meeting and ask to be excused.

• After landing thank the crew for taking care of you
• Incase you are traveling in a corporate jet or a
charter flight ensure to be an hour early so that you
do not delay departure
• While on board eat well. Avoid alcohol. Prefer to
drink fruit juice.
• Do not talk loudly as you will be disturbing the
privacy of the other passengers the other passengers

Rail Etiquette
• Ensure reservation to have a comfortable journey
• Be at the station and on the platform well in advance so that
you are well settled before departure
• It is a good idea to engage a porter who knows his ways
around
• On finding your seat, put away your luggage either on the rack
overhead or under the seat. Keep adequate space for other
passenger’s luggage too

• When the attendant comes to take an order for your
meals, it is safer to eat vegetarian food
• When you eat or drink, do not be a nuisance to
others
• After you complete your meal, place the tray and
plates so that they are not an obstruction
• As a courtesy to fellow passengers, do not play music
too loud

• If traveling with company, do not laugh or talk loudly.
Respect the privacy of others around you.
• At night, others may want to sleep early. So after
your meal, move on to your berth.
• Keep the bathroom clean after you use as others will
be using the same after you

Bus Etiquette
• If the journey is long, reservations must be made in advance
• Be at the bus station on time
• Once on the bus, put away your luggage and belongings so
that the other passengers are not disturbed
• If you have to get off the bus for a break in between the
journey come back in time. Do not make the other patients
wait for you
