The document discusses integration with the Salesforce App Cloud. It provides an overview of integration, describing Salesforce's APIs, development toolkits, and standards that enable integration. These include the Partner API, Enterprise API, Bulk API, REST API, and Streaming API. It also discusses middleware like Dell Boomi, which provides an integration platform as a service (iPaaS) that allows "point and click" integration using extract, transform, load capabilities. The presentation includes a demo of integrating with Salesforce using Dell Boomi's APIs and user interface for bulk data loading.

What is a platform ?
We know and use the App Cloud platform as a combination of features over a combination of devices to access our data and do the things we want to get done professionally. That is the platform. We’ve so gotten used to this that many of us stop wondering how all this comes together, how the different parts integrate.
You enter part of the data, some data is calculated and then there’s data that “just shows up”.
Applications interact and communicate data through APIs. The goal is always to create and deliver more business value. To have integrated business processes, to have an integrated customer experience. Without issues, glitches, but a seamless experience and interaction.
Eg: Belgian Police print online crime declarations and manually enter them in another system. = Exactly what could be bypassed by integrating their systems.
If we zoom out to the full enterprise landscape we see that there are many integration needs with much different needs and reasons. There isn’t a single solution for all these needs. A feature-rich platform needs a rich toolset of integration capabilities. Salesforce has exactly that!
Salesforce has an array of APIs and other integration possibilities. Some are passive and need to be initiated from the external application or middleware connecting the applications. Some can be initiated from salesforce to read external data or to send messages from configuration or apex. Custom APIs can easily be created by apex for both wsdl based SOAP or JSON based REST services.Salesforce doesn’t stop there, it also provides support for developers who want to integrate from their external application through several language specific SDKs that facilitate some of the integration aspects like authentication or local storage in the Mobile SDK.
Graph Excludes the Marketing & Analytics Cloud !
Loosely typed vs hard typed wsdl
Synchronous vs Asynchronous
Partner API -> client applications that are metadata-driven and dynamic in nature. Good to develop for multiple different orgs.

Many applications and platforms exist that will help you integrate systems. Most of these offer connectivity to Salesforce through these various APIs.
