Taking a Ride in a WWII Mitchell B-25 Bomber - Known as "Maid in the Shade" I've have been trying to figure out something special to do with our kids to celebrate several special events which are in the works. 1st our oldest son is soon to receive his PhD from Stanford. 2nly our youngest son Graham is soon to graduate with an Engineering degree from WWU. 3rdly I am soon to become 67 years old. I never used to believe that anyone could ever be that old but here I am Anyway, I opened the paper last week to discover that "The Maid in the Shade" a B-25 Mitchell Bomber was going to be in town and that rides could be scheduled. Problem solved - what better way to celebrate all 3 events than a ride back in history on a WWII Bomber. What made this trip especially memoriable was that Joe Moser former P-38 WWII fighter pilot and author of A Fighter Pilot in Buchenwald: The Joe Moser Story along with his Wing Man were going to be on board as well. We'll all be talking about this trip for a long time. We were all ear to ear smiles from the moment the engines fireed off until the wheels came to a final stop. If you get a chance to stop in at the Fight Museum at the Bellingham Airport, you should. It's chucked full of history that kids of all ages will enjoy. Whether you take a flight or not, it will be time well spent. My hats off to the folks there that make it happen - job well done.
