2. WHAT IS INTERNET?
• The global system of interconnected computer networks known as the Internet is
used by billions of people worldwide. Countless people helped develop it, but the
person most often credited with its invention is the computer scientist Lawrence
Roberts.
• In the 1960s, a team of computer scientists working for the U.S. Defense
Department's ARPA (Advanced Research Projects Agency) built a communications
network to connect the computers in the agency, called ARPANET. It used a
method of data transmission called "packet switching" which Roberts, a member
of the team, developed based on prior work of other computer scientists.
ARPANET was the predecessor of the Internet.

3. WHAT IS NETWORK ?
• A Computer network is defined as
the interconnection of two or more
computer. It is done to enable the
computers to communicate and
share available resources.

THE INTERNET WAS AN ACCIDENT! –
• One Theory was that it was developed to survive a
Nucleur attack .That theory is often disputed by scientists.
• The Internet was a result of an unsuccessful military and
academic research program

7. WORLD WIDE WEB (WWW)
• The WWW (world wide web) is a system of interlinked, hypertext documents
accessed via the internet
• With a web browser, a user views web pages that may contain text, images video
and other multimedia.
• WWW are commonly found at the beginning of web addresses.
• The www today is a distributed client / server service , in which client using a
browser can access a service using a server.
• The service provided is distributed over many locations called ‘sites’.

• Each site holds one or more documents referred to as web pages.
• Each web page can contain a link to other pages.
• Web server is a program running on a server computer.
• The web server constantly waits for a request for a web page from browser
program which runs on the client
• HTTP i.e. Hyper Text Transfer Protocol is a protocol used mainly to access data on
the www, which governs the dialog between the client and server

10. WEB 1.0
• Web 1.0 refers to the first stage in the World Wide Web, which was entirely made
up of web pages connected by hyperlinks.
• Although the exact definition of Web 1.0 is a source of debate, it is generally
believed to refer to the web when it was a set of static websites that were not yet
providing interactive content.
• In Web 1.0, applications were also generally proprietary.

11. WEB 2.0
• It’s a simply improved version of the first world wide web, characterized
specifically by the change from static to dynamic or user-generated content
where user can read and also write data .
• In this period of time the first E-Commerce Website – Amazon was launched.
• Also many of the Social Media websites , Blogs were started in this time period.

12. WEB 3.0
• The next evolution of the Web involves the Semantic Web. The semantic web
improves web technologies in order to generate, share and connect content
through search and analysis based on the ability to understand the meaning of
words, rather than on keywords or numbers
• Artificial Intelligence -: Combining this capability with natural language
processing, in Web 3.0, computers can understand information like humans in
order to provide faster and more relevant results. They become more intelligent
to satisfy the needs of users.
