Introduction
This guide tells you about the different ways to
travel in and from Weymouth, to the wider Dorset
area. Attractions have been colour-coded to help you
find your way around.
Escape the hussle of modern life and unwind in Dorset.
With beautiful beaches, peaceful country lanes, rolling hills and
woodland trails right on your doorstep, you can explore the
area easily on foot, by bike, by bus or by train.
The attractions map highlights main areas of interest including
family activities as well as museums and gardens. You’ll also
find information later in the guide on how to get to them by
bus or train.
It is very easy to get around Weymouth on foot, by bike or
by bus.
Whether you want to spend your time relaxing on
the beach or exploring the coast path, there is
something for everyone.
4. Weymouth is a vibrant seaside town with plenty of great activities
and attractions to keep everyone entertained. Market day is on
Thursdays with a farmers market in the town on alternate Sundays.
Weymouth and the surrounding area has many miles of trails and
bridleways for you to explore, and with an extensive cycle network
it’s never been easier to explore the town by bike or on foot.
This map is a guide to major attractions and amenities in the
town. It also highlights bus stops, walking and cycling routes.
For a detailed map of cycle routes in the area visit:
www.dorsetforyou.com/travel-dorset/cycle
Weymouth town centre car parks can get busy, so why not travel
in by bus or use the park and ride.
If driving, leave plenty of time for your journey.
Weymouth has car park guidance signs to direct
you to car parks with spaces. For all-day parking
the Swannery car park is ideal.

8. Weymouth bus travel
Exploring Weymouth by bus is a wonderful way
to see the town. Hop on and off with a day return
or weekly ticket and let someone else do the driving.
The main bus stops in the town are centred around the
King George III Statue along Weymouth seafront.
There are regular services in and out of the town centre, with
some last buses running until midnight*. (*Please note - summer
service buses run until 2am to Portland and until 12.30am to Preston)
Many local buses have low floors which are easily accessible for
wheelchair users and ‘buggy friendly’, meaning you can bring
your buggy on board without having to fold it up. With more
and more buses being adapted to be accessible, it’s never
been easier to travel.
Local bus companies offer a variety of tickets with singles,
day returns and weekly or monthly passes.
●1 Having the right change will save time.
●2 Signal for the bus to stop - As the bus
approaches, check the route number and
destination displayed on the front. Raise your
arm as a signal for the bus to stop.
●3 When you want to get off -
Simply press the bell once, as you
approach the stop, stay seated
until the bus stops. If you are
unsure where your bus stops,
ask the driver for help.

10. Weymouth by bike
Cycling is a great way to explore the local area.
There are many dedicated cycle ways, bridleways
and trails to get around the town while avoiding
traffic on the roads. Weymouth has 40km of cycle paths, most
of it is traffic-free, making it one of the best in the South West.
Weymouth train station has 40 dedicated cycle-parking spaces
and covered parking. The town centre also has more than
200 cycle-parking spaces so it’s never been a better time to
use pedal power.

Wareham is the start of many walking and cycling routes to
explore the rest of Purbeck. Bike hire is available at Wareham
train station, www.purbeckcyclehire.co.uk, 01929 556601.
