I have recently been using Prezi for business presentations and they have been well received. I have also been introduced to MS Sway. So I thought this comparison of some of the pros and shortcomings of both would be beneficial to others.
2. Quick and easy to share
Easily add text content
3 design layouts to use (horizontal scroll, vertical scroll, presentation mode)
Rapidly add images from your computer or the web
Free to use with your Microsoft account
https://sway.com/my
3. Offer paid and premium accounts
• https://prezi.com/
Choose from built in templates or create your own
Link to YouTube Videos easily
Many presentation flows available
Customizable design layouts
Great for business use
4. Creating bullet lists and font enhancements is
limited
To insert better looking text lists
◦ Create your list in PPT or Word using Smart Art
◦ Save the list as an image
◦ Upload to sway
◦ ** I like to create in PPT as I think it is cleaner to
convert to an image file
5. Charting options don’t appear to work yet
The option to upload a PowerPoint exists, but
the format gets corrupted
◦ Example: Upload of a PPT that had animations and
details on a slide got broken up into multiple cards
with meaningless bits of actual slide data that was
unusable
6. No easy migration path from free site to pro
◦ Have to rework your presentations
Limited templates are available in the free site
◦ The options in the paid site are completely different
than the free site
No easy way to mask a link to a URL in Prezi
Option to embed presenter notes doesn’t
exist
7. When changing font sizes, change the overall
template otherwise you don’t really know the
size of the font if you edit text as shown on
screen
Uploading a PPT or PDF is easy and effective
8. Both Sway and Prezi offer a new way to
present
Sway is great for general slide shows
Sway needs to mature and offer more
enhanced features
Prezi is better for presenting mixed data
Prezi is better for story telling
I enjoy using both
