2. Introduction. ADSL is the short abbreviation of Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line, which is a type of DSL broadband communications technology that is used for connecting to the internet. The ADSL allows more data to be sent over the existing copper telephone lines when you compare it to the traditional modem lines. With an ADSL a special filter, called a microfilter, is installed onto a subscribers telephone line which allows both ADSL and regular voice (telephone) services to be used at the exact same time. Unlike most modems, the ADSL requires a special modem and its subscribers must be in a close geographical location to the provider’s central office in order to receive the ADSL service.

3. Introduction (Continued). The Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line supports: data rates from 1.5 to 9 Mbps (megabytes per second), when receiving data (this is known as the downstream rate) & from 16 to 640 Kbps (Kilobytes per second) when sending data (this is known as the upstream rate).

The Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line is perfect for business use because:* It’s a widely available asymmetrical broadband service.* It has a delivering bandwidth of up to 8Mb, over existing telephone lines.* It has no download limits and up to 5:1 contention.* All equipment is provided fully configured, and remotely managed for the customer.* It’s a fully managed service, backed with service level guarantees.* It’s ideal for business web browsing, email, downloading files & videos.

5. Personal / Public Use. ADSL is available for personal and public use, just like for businesses. If you were using an Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line, then just like a business, you’d be able to get a much faster connection than any normal broadband package as well as faster and unlimited download space.Again, like the business use, it is ideal for web browsing, emailing and watching / uploading videos.This technology is available for basically anyone who’s computer / laptop / Mac can run it. Though the members of the public would use it more for emailing their friends and relatives and just connecting with them whereas business would use it for just that – business.

6. Conclusion. In conclusion to this PowerPoint we have learnt that by having an ADSL broadband connection, you are able to experience a much faster performance with less chance of disconnection. Also, the fact that ADSL uses copper wiring as a carrier it allows third parties to compete against each other at a low cost.
