Principles of Communication
The principles of communication tells us how our message can become effective for the target audience.
They tell us about the style and importance of message.
These principles are commonly known as 7C’s of effective communication.
Following are the 7C's of Effective Communication:
1. Clear: The intent of clear communication is that the message should be easily understood by the receiver, and should not be misinterpreted.
+ How can we do clear communication?
Make the objective of communication clear
Avoid complex words and phrases.
Try your level best to use easy to understand words so that the receiver can quickly understand it.
2. Concise: A concise message is brief and to the point.
+ How can we do concise communication?
Eliminate unnecessary words like literally, basically etc.
Include only relevant material
Remove repetition
While trying to be concise, don’t forget about the completeness of the message.
3. Concrete: Concrete communication is about being specific and clear rather than vague or general.
+ How can we do concrete communication?
Use facts and figures to add authenticity to your message
Choose image building words
This kind of communication creates trust between sender and receiver.
4. Correct: Correct Communication implies that the communication is both grammatically and factually correct.
+ How can we make our message correct?
Use accurate facts and figures
Ensure the message is grammatically correct
In written communication, proofread your message before sending.
5. Considerate: Considerate implies “stepping into the shoes of others”. The most important C of the effective communication is to take the audience’s viewpoints, interests and intention into consideration.

Focus on ‘you’ instead of ‘I’ or ‘We’
Consider need and issues experienced by receiver
Write message in such a way that how audience should be benefited from them.
6. Complete: A Complete message contains all the necessary information that is required to achieve the desired response. Complete communication leaves no question in the mind of receiver.

Answer the what, when, why, who, where, and how. Helps its audience in better decision-making as they get all desired and crucial information.
7. Courteous: Courteous communication implies the sender of the message being genuinely polite, respectful, and considerate towards the feelings and opinions of the receiver.

Be sincerely tactful, thoughtful and appreciative
Use words that shows respect for others
Use non-discriminatory expressions
