From 2007 to 2015, global wood-based panel market showed mixed dynamics. A significant drop in
2008-2009 was followed by a gradual increase. In 2015, the wood-based panel market grew to 380,411
thousand cubic meters. The market value showed similar dynamics every year, except for 2015, when
the global wood-based panel market value decreased to 155,447 million USD. This was 8% lower than
the year before.
According to market research conducted by IndexBox, China (47%) and the U.S. (11%) led with the
highest demand of wood-based panels, followed distantly by Germany, Russia, Turkey, Brazil, Poland,
Japan, Canada, and the UK. Together, all these countries comprised close to 78% of global
consumption.
China recorded the highest annual growth rates of wood-based panel consumption from 2007 to 2015,
with +11.4%% growth. Turkey (+6.5% per year), Brazil (+3.8% per year), Poland (+1.1% per year),
and Russia (+1.1% per year) also showed positive dynamics. Other countries showed negative
dynamics in terms of consumption from 2007 to 2015.
Canada (235 cubic meter/1,000 persons) and Poland (234 cubic meter/1,000 persons) had the highest
levels of per capita consumption among the leading consuming countries, which was significantly higher
than the world average of 52 cubic meters/1,000 persons. Germany, the U.S., China, and Turkey
tracked lower levels, at about 120-150 cubic meters/1,000 persons each. Brazil (44 cubic meter/1,000
persons) had the lowest levels of wood based panel consumption.
