THE SMART HELMET
Brought to you by SHARK – Smart Helmet to Avoid Road
Kill
I. Introduction to the Smart Helmet
This proposalaims at the security and safety of the bikers against road
accidents, while also providing them with a luxurious, comfortable two-wheeler
experience. Each Smart Helmet has been designed and assembled by our own
mechanics and engineers, and each helmet has an in-built circuit and software
with various functions.
 The circuit in each helmet is designed in such a manner that the bike
won’t start unless the rider wears the helmet.
 The camera installed on the bike will detect whether the rider is wearing
the helmet or not, through face detection. It will only then complete the
circuit and start the bike, after confirming that the rider is wearing the
helmet.
 An in-built breathalyser will detect alcohol in the rider’s breath, checking
if the driver is drunk in order to prevent accidents due to drunken driving
which is a cause of a large percentage of automobile accidents. If the
breathalyser detects alcohol in your system, it shall ask a series of
questions to check if your intoxication level is low enough to enable you
to drive. Otherwise, it shall list out taxi services to you or allow you to
contact someone.
 In case of an accident, the GPS system installed in the Smart Helmet will
globally locate the biker and an immediate message will be sent to the
family members and/or emergency contacts, and local authorities about
the location of accident.
 Some other features have been added in order to attract the youth. A high-
quality Bluetooth headphone that connects with any available smart
phone shall be installed in the Smart Helmet enabling the riders to enjoy
music while they ride their two-wheeler.
 Another luxury feature available in the Smart Helmet is a hands-free
facility to pick up incoming calls from your phone, again via Bluetooth so
that you don’tget distracted by phone calls while driving. A switch is
added on the right side of the outside of the helmet, to accept calls.
 Our carefully installed and exclusively designed GPS navigation system
guides you and gives you directions to your desired location by verbally
providing instructions, step by step. So you no more have to worry about
getting lost or even reading maps or checking maps on your phone.
 A catalogue and directory of all nearby mechanics and automotive part
dealing stores are stored inside the memory of the Smart Helmet, to
ensure you don’thave to wait or travel miles to find a mechanic.
 The Smart Helmet also boasts of an in-built solar panel, an additional,
one-of-its-kind feature. The solar panel will ensure that even if the battery
of the helmet is low, the circuit and software will still keep running on
backed-up solar power until you can charge your helmet, so you are
always safe.
 This helmet will also come with a Red LED light installed at the back of
the helmet so that at night, or even on dark, foggy nights, people driving
in vehicles behind you can easily spotyou.
 The Smart Helmet will be available to Indian riders in two languages –
English and Hindi – for the GPS navigation system and other controls.
These languages, after beta testing and initial production and sales may
be expanded to include regional languages of India for the convenience of
students who prefer their own language.
II. How it Will Work
Some people might think, “What if someone steals the helmet?” or “What if you
forget the helmet and the security of the helmet becomes a major criterion?”
However, we have already considered these problems and we have the solution
for you. There is a bypass activation switch created for cases where the helmet
is not available to you. You can access this detection switch by using your
secret key codebut this type of use should be avoided in order to be safe. This
secret key codecan only be acquired by calling our customer care and
confirming your identity and intoxication level by answering a set of personal
and basic presence of mind questions. The secret key codewill automatically be
changed after a one time use and the same process will have to be followed for
the next time a similar situation should arise. When the detection key is off then
wearing the helmet does not become a compulsion.
III. Financial Background
The initial partners in this business would be Dushyant, Gurkaran, Kirti, Rajni,
and Nitin.
Each partner would invest Rs. 14, 40,000 each.
Initial models will be designed and assembled and pitched to various software,
hardware and automotive companies and industries for testing. The
companies/industries will be offered a percentage share in the company or
offered partnership if the design is approved in exchange for an investment.
If the designs and productis approved, and capital and investment is received,
an initial 1000 products shall be assembled and marketed.
IV. Production
This productshould be costeffective in order to be accessed byall students and
the youth.
Including all instruments and hardware it would costRs.7, 000 to build and
assembled this Smart Helmet. The price could not be reduced further because
GPS and Bluetooth modem are an expensive buy even at retail rate.
This costincludes:
 Rs. 1000 for headphones
 Rs. 4000 for Bluetooth modem, GPS and camera
 Rs. 1000 for a basic 20 watts solar panel
 Rs. 100 for the Red LED light
 Rs. 500 for the Mini Digital Breathalyzer
 Rs. 200 for 2GB storage
 Rs. 200 for a comfortable helmet base
This productcan be sold at Rs. 9,000, with a minimum profit of Rs. 2000.
Total profit Rs. 18, 00,000
I.e. Rs. 3,60,000 per partner after deducting all the costs.
The initial models would have to bear minimum profits but the costprice of the
materials can be later reduced by creating a properinfrastructure.
If the orders are made in bulk and bought at wholesale or bulk prices from
manufacturers directly, the prices may be effectively lowered even further.
However, the initial costofproduction of the Smart Helmet cannot be reduced
any more for the initial testing and beta stage.
V. Market Survey
Our productcan be categorised in the segment of Google glass.
It is better than Google Glass in the following ways
1. The costprice of Google Glass is 1500$ i.e. Rs. 93,500 whereas
the price of our productis only Rs. 9000.
2. Google glass is not even available in India as yet.
3. Google Glass has been proven to be a distraction while driving
by the doctors.
4. Google glass is illegal in many states becauseit diverts your
attention from driving.
5. The navigation is shown on a small screen which is very
difficult to see while driving. Our productprovides verbal step-
by-step directions.
6. Google glass does not have any feature for safety or to play
music.
7. More than 60% of the youth ride bikes in india and hence would
prefer the SHARK.
VI. Market Segment
The audience targeted for the beta testing and initial stages of the Smart Helmet
will be the youth in the Metropolitan cities of New-Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata,
Bengaluru, Chennai and Pune.
These are the cities where most of the young students and professionals own
motorcycles, scooters ormopeds. Much of the young generation is addicted to
alcohol and rough driving and don’tcare for their lives. My proposalwill not
only attract them, but will also make their parents feel secure about their
children. So certainly my work should start where the youth of nation lives and
on which India depends on becoming a superpower in the coming years. Their
safety is our glory.
VII. Capital
The capital required to build the initial 1000 pieces would be Rs. 72 lakhs.
 Rs. 70,00,000 would be costof materials used to make the product(at Rs.
7,000 per helmet)
 Rs. 50,000 for advertising in newspapers, colleges, internet and
specifically Google ads
 Rs. 50,000 for mechanic work i.e. to assemble all the parts
 (Rs. 5000 per personfor 10 mechanics to assemble 100 pieces each)
 Rs. 50,000 for the software engineer to develop the software and the
circuit
 Rs. 20,000 for customer care i.e. Rs. 5,000 each for 4 employees.
 Rs. 30,000 for engineers to install the circuit.
VIII. 5 Year Plan
In the next 5 years, we would like to expand our productto most cities of our
country and even further promote our product to our neighbouring countries
such as Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Sri Lanka, where more than 8 people
die of bike accidents daily.
Our productshould not only attract the youth but also win over the trust of
middle-aged and senior citizens.
Every person that owns a two-Wheeler should also own the SHARK.
Our aim is to transform our productfrom an accessoryto an essential in the
market in the near future.
The entire nation should one day be under this protective head-gear. One
day everyonewillbe wearinga helmet before they drivea bike.
IX. Marketing Scheme for Tie-Ups with Two-wheeler
Manufacturers
While the Smart Helmet will be available to individual buyers and consumers,
however our main aim is to collaborate and partner up with two-wheeler
manufacturers. It will not only be the most beneficial move for our business
proposal, but it will be even more beneficial to the manufacturers. It will
increase their sales, because many people choosecars over two wheelers due to
their beliefs that four-wheeled vehicles are safer, and also becauseof other
comfort-oriented concerns like the functions of navigation and music.
But with this product, the two-wheeler manufacturers can pitch their vehicles as
a safe, smart, and comfortable experience, which would be unavailable to them
without this helmet.
This Smart Helmet would also be a productapproved of by authorities like the
police, as this would reduce mortality rate and challans imposed on riders.
X. Feasible and Innovative
This productis an essential because:
 You HAVE to wear the helmet for your safety
 It rules out the option of drinking and driving
 In case of an accident it contacts all of your emergency contacts and
authorities
 It finds you the closest mechanic, complete with directions
 It will help you with directions to your destination and verbally provide
directions
 It will enable you to answer phone calls without the hassle of distracting
you from driving
 Since the two-wheeler will not be activated without the helmet, this
ensures safety and security of your vehicle
 The red LED light makes you visible even in heavy rainfall or dense fog
or at night
 The helmet has extra coating made of durable materials to ensure your
safety
Therefore, not only will collaboration with a two-wheeler manufacturer benefit
us, but it will more so benefit two-wheeler manufacturers as it will boostsales
and portray their vehicles as safer, more desirable automotives.
XI. Conclusion
The helmets will come in different styles and colors, which the customer can
choose, ormatch with their two-wheeler, with different styles and colors for
girls, boys, and different two-wheelers.
For only Rs. 9,000 (available to two-wheeler manufacturers from our company
at a lower rate, and reduced to a mere Rs. 5,000 in case of orders of more than
500) this is an extremely desirable, extremely profitable and very smart choice
for manufacturers as well as the customers.
