The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) formerly known as National Open School (NOS) was established in November 1989 as an autonomous organization in pursuance of the National Policy on Education 1986 by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India.

2. BOSSE: An Open School Board in India
• The open school system in India takes a
flexible approach to curriculum selection,
pace, and study location. Open Schools
System in India such as BOSSE.
• Open Schooling Boards - BOSSE And NIOS are
similar boards. Both are providing open
schooling for secondary, senior secondary and
vocational education programs.

4. Importance of the National
Institute of Open Schooling
The Indian Education system has always been a
center of attraction for the world and that’s why
there have been many Indians placed in some of
the big top-notch companies of the world
including NASA etc.
And its hues have been added more when the
Govt. of India introduced National Institute of
open schooling formerly known as NOS.
