Sometimes you just need to spin up a virtual server, install your LAMP stack or web app, and go. No complex configurations - just a few clicks and a simple, low price.

How do you get started with your move to the cloud?
AWS is a constantly evolving platform, we love to innovate on behalf on our customers and it shows!
Our pace of innovation is expanding as we’re also expanding the product offering – this is great news for our customers, offering greater choice and flexibility.
Some of you may be sitting there though and thinking…
All of this innovation is a bit daunting.. where to start…
We created lightsail to make it easier to get started with AWS with a bundle-based pricing approach that means many use cases benefit from a predictable monthly price.
Lightsail provides you with:
- Virtual Servers
- Persistent Storage
- With Snapshot capability to S3 designed for 99.999999999% durability
- Configurable Networking
- Including DNS
So what does it really do?
We use familiar underlying technologies and provide a simple wrapper over the top to let you focus on what you want to do!
Preconfigured images allow you to add your favorite Linux distribution and popular web applications with a single click, including WordPress, Magento, LAMP, and more.
You can deploy lightsail in many regions with more being added, you have full control over WHERE your data resides.
Availability Zones mean you have redundancy within a given geography.
5 instance types, from very small to pretty beefy, however if you need 4TB of RAM, you'll have to look elsewhere ;)
Simple to use user interface
You can even connect SSH directly from the web UI
You can still build automation into your deployments, as you’d expect from AWS!
UI optimized for managing s a small amount of instances and provide you with quick access to the information you need.
Finally you can now hop onto your instances without having you put your private keys on the clients, just authenticate with AWS and you can use the built in SSH client.
Networking, including Static IP addresses and a Stateful firewall that you control.
DNS including in the price, build on AWS’ global Route53 DNS infrastructure.
3 hosted zones and up to 3M requests per account, beyond that standard Route53 rates apply.
Snapshots enable you to take a point in time backup of your instances, you can simply tag them and also use them to launch new instances / upgrade the size of your bundle when your website takes off!
Snapshots are stored in S3, which is designed for 99.999999999% durabilty.

Lightsail:
Simple applications
Small websites and blogs
Development and test environments
EC2:
Multi-tier applications (dozens of instances) with load balancing
Large websites
Resource intensive workloads
Cloudformation / Automation
Use multiple instances, across availability zones potentially.
Expand to use other aws services through VPC peering
VPC Peering connects your Lightsail network to your default VPC where you can for example run an RDS instance to store your databases.
Enabling VPC peering is as simple as ”ticking a box”
