Task 8
1.
2. This is the first flat plan I did. I like the layout of
this one as it does look like the layout of a typical
tabloid.
I didn’t want it all crammed up together I wanted
it spaced out (like this) so its more clear – the
masthead clearly presented then underneath the
headline or perhaps that could go through he
image, the advert column along the side and the
image in the middle and text at the bottom so it is
clearly spaced out but the whole page would be
taken up.
3. This is the second flat plan I did. I prefer this
one as it looks a bit different to a normal
tabloid.
When I was researching tabloid papers the
special editions of the paper looked like this
and I thought they looked really good.
It is clear and spaced out and I think it just
looks really good so I think I will be using this
layout on my tabloid. I like it because it has
the masthead clear at the top and then it will
have a big image in the middle and the
headline will be included with that then the
text will be in the bottom corner.
4. The examples I researched were of
the mirror – the flat plans I did
were based on these two editions.
The first one is the classic style of
the paper – the masthead at the
top and then the adverts on the
side and the image, headline and
text all in one taking up the rest of
the page.
The other version is a bit like a
special edition – it is different to
the others but I really like it – it has
the masthead on the top and
another headline for a different
story at the bottom. The image is
taking up the full page and it has
the headline on the image at the
side and the headline is a quote
which is a good idea, it then has
the text at the bottom corner
giving you a bit to read before you
go into the whole story.
5. These are the images I chose for the
article – the article is about seals and
so that was the obvious choice. I
wanted to include images that were
cute as then it will pull the audience in
and make them feel bad for the seals
that have been hurt.
6. These two fonts would be perfect for a headline for
the article as they are clear to read and they are
good for a tabloid as they are formal but not as
formal as the ones that would be used for a
broadsheet newspaper.
I quite like these two fonts for the text for the article.
They are easy to read and again not too formal like the
ones you would use for a broadsheet.

14. We were asked to design a tabloid article. I decided to make a front cover and have the article on there. I
researched some font covers for it, at first I decided to make it like a typical tabloid newspaper – headline
in the usual place, adverts on the side then an image with a bit of text.
Then I decided that that would be the same as every other tabloid and wanted to make I different so I
made it like a special edition one (like the one I researched) and so I started to make it like that and I
thought it looked a lot better then what I had before.
I also changed the headline as I thought the other one was too boring - I wanted something eye catching
and make the reader want to read it. Then I made it bold changed the position of the headline and I also
added a pull quote to the cover as I thought that that would be a good idea but look back at it now it just
doesn’t really look right and it should be really on there.
For the text I didn’t really know what to do as it didn’t really look right positioned anywhere – then I
looked at a few more images of tabloids and I just decided to then have it in the bottom corner and have it
on a white background so it stood out more.
I also had to change the text to make it more informal to fit into a tabloid rather than it being formal (like
it was) to fit into a broadsheet.
